Second Sunday in OTR May 9th

Over-the-Rhine Chamber Expands Second Sunday on Main to Second Sunday in OTR

Unique shops, Art Galleries, restaurants, celebrity chef dems, live music, beer garden, and more!

CINCINNATI (April, 2010) Second Sunday on Main will expand and change its name to Second Sunday in OTR (Over-the-Rhine), and will include Main, Vine and other surrounding streets between 12th and 14th streets. SSOTR will continue to be a hip, eclectic neighborhood event, but in its 6th season will embrace the vibrant neighborhood and expand beyond Main Street.

The season begins May 9 and continues through September 12 on the second Sunday of every month from 12 – 5 p.m. in historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood.  The event is free and open to the public.

“The focus is going to change to be about the shops, restaurants and residents that are responsible for the rebirth of OTR,” said Barbara Hauser, chair of Second Sunday.  “The energy and commitment to this neighborhood is endless and our hope is we can take this event to the next level and truly celebrate all of OTR.”

Several changes will occur including the Beer Garden and live music will move to the newly opened Neon’s Unplugged in their 4,000 square foot patio with a bocce ball court. “We are excited to be a part of Second Sunday and the expansion,” said Dan MacDonald, co-owner of Neon’s. “We want Neon’s to be a part of the fabric of the community, a place for folks to gather, hang out and make connections.”

”On Vine St we are excited to be included in the Chamber’s Second Sunday’s events,” said Mike Deininger, MiCA 12/v owner.  “The pace of the rejuvenation of OTR has really snowballed in the last six to twelve months.  On Vine we’ve had several new businesses open including the Senate restaurant and Cooknee Euro Style Cabinets. It’s so easy to spend an entire day wandering around enjoying all of OTR – start at Findlay Market and eat and shop your way through the Gateway Quarter and up Main St.”

From Noon until 5pm each Sunday OTR will be THE place to explore all the new shops, restaurants, vendors and art galleries.  Begin the day with brunch and coffee at Iris Book Café, Coffee Emporium, or Lavomatic  then hit the shops on Vine, Main St. and beyond (full listing below) for unique finds. As always Main Street will be lined with vendors and artists for the Street Fair on Main, sponsored by Main Street Merchants and Urban Sites. Learn something new at the celebrity chef demo and then relax with a beer and local music at Neon’s Unplugged.

“Be sure to tour the newly renovated condos and apartments along Vine and Main streets as part of the Second Sunday experience,” said Kelly Leon, vice president of communications & community relations for 3CDC.  “More and more people are choosing to live in OTR’s Gateway Quarter because of the walkability and easy access to work, shopping, restaurants and all the arts and cultural attractions that downtown Cincinnati and OTR have to offer.”

The favorite Celebrity Chef demo will continue at Falling Wall Condos (1419 Main) featuring Jeremy Luers from the Rookwood Bar & Restaurant in Mt. Adams. Rommel Wells will also be part of the demo making craft cocktails for all to enjoy.

“This summer is going to be the tipping point,” said Angela Morrow, C4Yourself Gallery owner. “My husband and I have lived in Over-the-Rhine for 9 years and closed on our home a week after the 2001 civil unrest.  It has been a slow evolution but the OTR community and neighborhood is coming back to life. This summer everyone can experience the broad range of opportunities from Main Street to the Gateway Quarter.”

Over-the-Rhine is everyone’s community where people, businesses, art & culture thrive. Second Sunday is only one of many events the OTR Chamber produces every year.

“Second Sunday, Go OTR 5K, OTR Summer Celebration, Final Friday all represent the Chambers initiatives to promote economic vitality and keep the neighborhood clean, safe and a destination for living, working and playing,” said Brian Tiffany, president of the Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce.

Sponsors include the Schlachter Family, CityBeat, Urban Sites, Merchants of Main, Vine Street Merchants and the Over-the-Rhine Camber of Commerce.
